Built in 1788, St John the Baptist at Elkstones contains the original box pews, the triple-decker pulpit, and what is (possibly!) the narrowest Altar in Christendom, all in a tiny but perfectly formed building.
It is worth seeking out in its position at the head of the valley, and a warm welcome awaits anyone who comes here to worship or to visit.
Planning your visit:
services usually take place on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, but check the rota (see ‘downloads’)
services are normally from Common Worship
the church is generally open every day during daylight hours
there are no lavatory facilities – or, indeed, running water
there is no car park, but there is a limited amount of on-street parking
there is a short ramp down to the front door, then level access
