About Us

The Benefice

The Longnor Benefice is a gathering of five churches in a very rural part of north Staffordshire, where the Peak District meets the Moorlands.  It includes the villages of Longnor, Quarnford, Sheen, Newtown, Reapsmoor, and Hollinsclough, as well as numerous hamlets.

Part of the Church of England in the Lichfield Diocese, we work together, sharing one Vicar (but see below), and supporting each other as we seek to be the People of God. There are services each Sunday and on Holy Days in the Benefice, though, with there being five churches, not every church has a service each week. Please remember that adverse weather conditions can mean services get cancelled at short notice.

We are currently without a vicar after the sudden death of  The Revd Preb John Baines. Father John was also the Rural Dean for the Alstonfield Deanery, and Prebendary of The Cathedral Church of St Mary & St Chad in Lichfield.
